Is toner really necessary?

Do I have to cleanse, tone then moisturise?

Or can I skip the toner part?Is toner really necessary?
No, you do not need to use a toner. Most toners contain alcohol, something that can sting and irritate the face. If you have sensitive skin alcohol toners can make your skin look worse, not better. Toners are a leftover from the days when the only make-up removing cleansers were heavy greasy cold creams that left a residue on the skin. Back then you were required to use kleenex to wipe away the cream -they were wax based and water would rinse them away and even kleeniex wasn't enough. Toners were needed to dissolve the waxy, fatty residue from the skin. Most cleansers nowadays are far lighter, many are foaming, almost all are water soluble-meaning they rinse away easily with warm water and a washcloth -and don't leave a film on the skin. Most toners are nothing more than water, alcohol, a bit of silicone and not much else.

If you do feel the need for something else to rinse away the last traces of cleanser, then warm water should be enough, then follow with your moisturizer. If you have dry skin and your cleanser leaves skin feeling a bit tight, then soak a cotton ball in a bit of rose-water and whoosh it over your face, and follow with moisturizer. If you do want to use a commercial toner for removing last traces of make-up and cleansers, then look for one that's alcohol free. MAC makes an excellent alcohol free toning lotion, and The Body Shop has several, including the rose water based Vitamin E toning mist and the Aloe Sensitive skin toner.

The only exception is if you are using an acne control system, these toners are essential as they contain medicinal ingredients that exfoliate dead skin and restore the heath and function of your pores. The toner, in this case, is essential. Missing this means you aren't getting the full benefits of the system.

And that's the basics of toners. Is toner really necessary?
toner is just an extra cleansing step. what is basically does is get rid of the dirt that your cleanser didnt get rid of, and it also wipes off the extra cleanser you didnt wash off. plus it also preps your skin for moisturising which is good particularly if you have dry or sensitive skin.
it really depends on what type of skin you have, for example dry, oily or combination. i have dry skin and ive tried proactive and have been using clinique too which is expensive and a really good brand, but the toner didnt help me. speak to a dermatoligist though they will tell you what will work best for your skin type! hope that helps. x
if you have oily skin a toner would help a ton it tighten pores and it makes your skin less oily.

if your have dry skin a toner is not necessary it can make your skin more dryer

Do you have dry skin? If so you should probably not use a toner as part of your daily routine at least not more than once a day. It depends on your skin type and what sort of toner you are using.
no
