What DOES A HAIR TONER DO?

i have heard of it before but i dont know what it does. What DOES A HAIR TONER DO?
Basically, it slightly alters your color without any ';lifting'; (meaning no ammonia, peroxide, etc.) ingredients.

It's primarily used with blonde hair.

Say you started out with a buttery, yellow-ish blonde. If you wanted a more icy, platinum color you would use purple toner (I know it sounds weird) to give it a cooler hue. What DOES A HAIR TONER DO?
it is a a very weak dry which instead of lightening your hair will tone different colours of it out like in you previous question said you have to many gold tones in your hair if you use a blue toner it will neutralise them without damaging the hair further as it is not taking anything away from the hair just masking it i hope this helps
it tones the colour of your hair down, if its blond it just takes the yellow and orange out of it to make it look more natural
its for when you have a dark hair color, and you are going to die it blonde or a light color. But then after you die your hair it will be like an orangey color, so they put the toner in it, and it takes away the orange and makes it the color its supposed to be. :] hope that helps
It tones your color down to something more nuetral. It works really well for color correction, but it should only be applied by a cosmotologist. Like me... ;P
just tones the hair down if your hair is brassy it can turn it more ash than brass...
takes braseness out of hair
