What is a toner?

I heard of it...but don't know what it is. First one to tell me, 10 points!

Is this a toner? My friend told me their's this thing that removes scabs that stay on your skin....? what is that? What is a toner?
toner is a skin care product which you dab onto your thoroughly cleansed face. after that you apply your normal moisturiser or cream, etc. it helps close the pores thus your skin appears to look smoother, in theory anyway.

be careful if you have sensitive skin, make sure the toner contains no alcohol which stinks like hell and your face feels so tight that kind of hurt. read the ingredient listed on the bottle.

it normally comes in a bottle, liquid form. generally clear as in water. What is a toner?
Hello to all... A toner can be so many things. The question was relating to skin and beauty... Or body. Hair toner is any color formulated to negate what might be on ones hair such as yellow or orange. Basic color wheel knowledge. Green will rid oranges and yellows but a true stylist would know to use violets first........

However a face toner would be an additional cleanser to follow your first step cleanser before you moisturise, It penatrated deeper into skin to help cleanse locked in dirt and dead skin. It will also give your face an overall balanced ';tone';. Helps to calm redness and blotchy skin.
it is for your face
In cosmetics, toner refers to a lotion designed to cleanse the skin and shrink pores, usually used on the face. Some people dispute whether toner is actually necessary, and prefer to use plain water instead. Toners can be applied to the skin in different ways:

On damp cotton wool. (most frequently used method)

Spraying onto the face using a vaporiser

By applying a tonic gauze facial mask - a piece of gauze is covered with toner and left on the face for a few minutes.

Skin bracers or fresheners:

These are the mildest form of toners; they contain virtually no alcohol (0-10%), water, and a humectant such as glycerine. Humectants help to keep the moisture in the upper layers of the epidermis by preventing it from evaporating. A popular example of this is rosewater. These toners are the kindest to skin, and are most suitable for use on dry, dehydrated, sensitive and normal skins.

Skin tonics:

These are slightly stronger and contain a small quantity of alcohol (up to 20%), water and a humectant ingredient. Orange flower water is an example of a skin tonic. Skin tonics are suitable for use on normal, combination, and oily skin.

Astringents:

These are the strongest form of toner and contain a high proportion of alcohol (20-60%), antiseptic ingredients, water, and a humectant ingredient. These are commonly recommended for oily skins as they are drying, but note that the removal of oil from the skin can lead to excess oil production as the skin tries to compensate for this and prevent moisture loss. Witch hazel is an example of an astringent. To prevent dehydration, astringent is best applied only to problem areas of skin, such as spots.
toner is a freshener that you wipe on your skin after you wash your face. It helps close pores so dirt won't get in it.
you put toner (a liquid that comes in a bottle, such as http://cleanandclear.com/productDetail.d鈥?/a> ) on a cotton ball and apply it to your face. toner can have several purposes, such as a treatment for acne or large pores.

it is the same as (or close to) astringent.
It's for your face, it cleans all the oil away.
It tones your skin and makes it all one color. Instead of it being blotchy, with darks spots and light spots.

It's really great, you should try it! =]
